Good Wives and Warriors is a creative partnership between Becky Bolton and Louise Chappell, who met while studying at the Glasgow School of Art.
For the show Buckminsterfullerene Dream Becky and Louise created a wall-based culmination of information and imagery, spliced together to form a tangled, ‘Google Image’ interpretation of the origin of life debate.
Ranging from the quaint to the curious, the absurd to the plausible, the work refers directly to the ‘Origin of Life’ theories, but from a Wikipedia knowledge stand point.
As our relationship with information becomes increasingly dependent in the Internet we are left with a superficial amount of knowledge - knowing not a lot about a lot of different things.
It is from this perspective that Good Wives and Warriors take on these universal and age-old questions; exploring them through bite-sized and sometimes glib snatches of information, revealing our desire to pursue knowledge but within the dubious realms of easy internet 'facts' and the top 20 ‘Google Image’ results. Reacting to the space they created a painting directly on to the gallery walls alongside a large 3D drawing sculpture in the shape of a Buckyball - molecules made up of 60 carbon molecules.
