Luke Montgomery uses a strong ideological language that he subverts through a poetic construction of form. The viewer is invited to reach interpretations that unsettle themselves, mirroring the underlying insecurities of dogma.
For MY KINGDOM Luke created a cyclical water system that endlessly ran through ripped up floor boards. ‘Waterboards’ has obvious political references but the experience of the work is ambiguous. While being visually and aurally violent it is also tender and hypnotic. The direct and confident construction of ‘Waterboards’ is countered by its useless yet perpetual nature.
Luke was also part of Where Beats This Human Heart.
